Then we drove off to Austin... The TGI Friday's by Congress Ave. Bridge is the perfect place to wait for the bats to come out... Between March-November, each night these bats come from under the bridge at dusk...
...they pretty much darken the sky as they fly out looking for food... a noble service provided to the City of Austin......bats consume between 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of insects nightly... and during their migrations to Mexico and back, they reach altitudes of 10,000 feet and speeds of 60 mph...
Congress Ave. Bridge is also a great place to take beautiful pictures... :-)
...with the reflexion of the buildings on the water... We really like Austin.
Day two in Austin was hot and perfect for water activities. We rented a small boat and toured the lake. The drought in Texas has been so bad that the water level at the lake has lost about 30 feet...
We stopped at a sand bar and swam for a few minutes. The girls took a few dives from the boat. It was very enjoyable.
We closed our visit to Austin at Zilker Park, where we swam in the 68 degree waters of Barton Spring Pool. It was a great place. Very natural and environmentally friendly. It almost reminded me of similar places in Guatemala.
