The party at Gerardo's uncle Luis' house began around 9:00 P.M. with nearly 50 people attending the event. We ate tamales and some other delicious traditional Guatemalan foods until before midnight. My nephew Josue had his birthday on Dec. 31, so we sang "happy birthday" to him that night. My mom baked one of my favorite cakes for the occasion. The fireworks at midnight were great. Fortunately, houses in Guatemala are built of bricks and concrete. A celebration like this would have burned our whole neighborhood to the ground in the US! But the party was far from over. After midnight we started a karaoke contest... which kept going until 5:00 A.M.... Thank you, Ruth and Luis for hosting such a fun celebration!!

Este fue uno de los mejores años nuevos que pasamos, reimos, cantamos como nunca y de todo un poco.... a excepción que Byron no estaba alli con nosotros.... Siempre lo llevaremos en nuestro corazón...
